!! NOTICE !!

DUE TO THE PASSING OF ZAPP FOUNDER STEVEN FORMAN, ZAPP IS NO LONGER ACTIVE.

Please continue to support the animals. In San Felipe, "Volunteers for Indigent and Vulnerable Animals" or VIVA has been formed to fill the void left by Steven's passing. It's a collaboration of volunteers from the two former animal care groups, ZAPP and San Felipe Animal Rescue.

For more information on VIVA visit their website.

ZAPP is an acronym for the "Zero Additional "PUP-ulation Project". ZAPP was founded by Steven Forman in 2006. We are a no-kill organization operating in San Felipe, Baja, California. ZAPP is committed to spaying and neutering up to 200 animals a month, so we can finally achieve zero additional population growth and stop city wide roundups forever, which end in euthanasia of our innocent stray and indigent street population. Through our "SHOES FOR SPAYS" Project we take donations of gently worn to brand new men's or women's shoes and turn them into money for sterilization surgeries, using our shoe store on eBAY. The link for the store can be found on the right side of this page, by scrolling down.
The ZAPP Spay/Neuter Project deals with the most immediate problem at hand, which like all cities and towns in Mexico, is fertility. Please send your resell-able shoes to: "SHOES FOR SPAYS", 95 EAST HIGHWAY 98, CALEXICO CA 92232.

BEST FRIENDS UPDATE!

UPDATE!
Sad News from San Felipe.
by Sharon St Joan
Best Friends Animal Society, Kanab, Utah
Dear STEVEN,

This is Steven Forman from ZAPP in San Felipe, and this is the latest, very sad news, no pictures, from writer Sharon St. Joan, Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. I waited one full day before sending this information out, because of how hard we all worked to avoid this. Before you read, please know that we were told, that out of respect to Americans living in Mexico, these dogs were not electrocuted, but humanely euthanized by injection. Welcome to the world of animal rescue in Mexico.

I am now working directly with Jessica Higgins, of HSI (Humane Society International) in Washington D.C., to address the issue of 30 out of 31 Mexican States still engaged in the practice of electrocution as a form of euthaniasia in Mexico. Also, Jessica Higgins is investigating and seeking information of just what conclusive data and test results were used to determine that anyone legitimately died as a result of contact with dogs in Mexicali. Mexican press is causing panic among residents, and forcing them to put their pets in the streets. Another roundup is scheduled in San Felipe for April 17th. Mexicali is euthanizing 40 dogs everyday as we speak.

We may have lost this battle, but I assure you we will not loose the War!!!

I live 2 hours south of Mexicali in San Felipe. My question is this: how do they figure that the dogs picked up here 1 week ago contribute to the tick problem in Mexicali??? The pound in Mexicali is at the southern most point of the outskirts of the city! The last round up was done in San Felipe were in neighborhoods wherein dogs were taken from right in front of their homes.

I wouldn't run to the bank believing they practiced humane euthanasia, particularly after they offered the dogs back to us for a modest 2,000.00USD just slighty inflated from the last ransom we paid 3 weeks ago. Smacks of ransom monies.

Interesting that the media is behaving just as biased on this issue as most southern california/arizona publications are about the country wide horrors of travelling in mexico.
