They Did a RoundUp Anyway!

Even though we had a signed agreement with our Mayor, in San Felipe, Hazael Sierra Castillo, that no more round ups would take place until we had an agreement, he and other officials in Mexicali have decided that a second roundup of street dogs will happen tomorrow, April 7th.

As you know, we worked hard this week to get the dogs back that were rounded up last Thursday, and we paid 9,600 pesos for their return, and traveled up to Mexicali with many volunteers and many trucks to transport them to the SFAR site in Las Minitas.

It appears, that the Mayor of Mexicali is making a visit to San Felipe on Wednesday, April 8th, to see our town during Holy Week, and I suppose these animals are just an eyesore.

ZAPP's attorney, Carmen Nuñez and I have worked all afternoon today, after finding out about this around 4pm, to get this action stopped. But it's going to happen anyway.

Our Mayor tells us that they will do the roundup as planned, but, here's the caviat! They will take the dogs to Mexicali for 15 days, not execute them, and allow us time to secure a facility, other than San Felipe Animal Rescue, which is already full, and then return them to us. We cannot afford to pay for their return, or travel again to Mexicali with a large group of people and vehicles. All this may be lies too, so we just have to wait and see!

Here's all I'm asking. I want you to please call Hazael, or email him, hazzael15@hotmail.com
011-52-686-216-3293 (from the states)
686-216-3293 (in San Felipe)
to let him know how Americans feel about their dogs, and needless euthanasia, especially when it's for cosmetic purposes. Please tell him how you feel, and do not hold back!

They're not "just dogs" to us! These animals are like kids to us!
Please take action!

I emailed this gentleman and let him know that animals are worth saving, that they are beautiful and deserve to live and breath like you and me. I hope this helps.

I just found about your organization from a friend and commend you for everything you are doing for these dogs.
I sent him an email as well letting him know that these dogs deserve to live.

I wanted to suggest to you to e-mail Best Friends Animal Society. Their e-mail is: info@bestfriends.org
They are the largest rescue organization in the US. If you tell them about your cause, they will gladly post a news article on their website about what is going on down there. Many people visit their website daily so this can bring much needed help and exposure for the dogs you are trying to help save.

Keep up the good work!

I also contacted the Mayor; thank you for making the information available. Another organization, San Felipe Information, suggested working with Baja Animal Resue. You probably already do, but in case, here is their contact:

bajaanimalrescue@yahoo.com

Thank you for what you are doing. I envision lots of happy dogs in new homes.

Blessings!

I am glad to know that ZAPP had saved 152 dogs from cruel electrocution in San Felipe.

Thank-you for your effort. Keep up the good work.
